From Windows and Ubuntu to Mac

Well, I finally have a Macbook. As a fan of Windows and XUbuntu, here are my comment about Mac OS:

  1. Windows and Linux have a huge number of software while Mac’s choice is limited. Let make an example: download accelarator: for Windows I can find a bunch of free and good ones while in Mac the choice is around 5-6 which mostly less functional than Win. Windows 10 can run ubuntu software (sort of) natively while do the same on Mac is a mess.
  2. two
  3. three
  4. four
  5. I am adding later when I have time for it.

remove and downgrade packages to previous version

Copy from here

If you used this method of installing Gnome 3.14 (basically using the ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3-staging and/or ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3 PPAs – the article also details some problems that occur in Unity caused by installing 3.14), you should be able to use the following:

sudo apt-get install ppa-purge
sudo ppa-purge ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3
sudo ppa-purge ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3-staging

This disables the PPAs and any reverts to the official repositories’ packages, downgrading Gnome 3.14 back to the default installed version. This should restore the bugs of large icons, Ambiance theme problems, client-side decorations etc if you want to use Unity not Gnome 3.14.

Comments: This method can apply for any “testing” purposes (install and if not okay, downgrade and remove)

Google captcha is too greedy

I am fed up with google captcha – the new version “I am a human”. It asks me to check which images are number for more than 10 times? When i tried to use the voice it asks me to classify textual content.

That is so bad. You are going to be a service for good reason and benefit at the same time, not for you!!!

could not mount /temp – error with wubi installer

Wubi is an installation method helps users install Ubuntu/Xubuntu alongside with Windows as an application (It creates a huge file to contain X/Ubuntu).

However, it has this problems: cannot boot to Ubuntu after update or cannot boot at all. The errors is “could not mount” some partitions, etc.

To boot to inside Ubunt in this case, we select “e” to edit the boot parametes, and see something like this

loop=/ubuntu/disks/root.disk ro rootflags=sync quiet splash

change the “ro” (read-0nly) to “rw” then press F10 to continue booting process.

After that, open /etc/grub.d/10_lupin and change aall “ro” to “rw”.

That works.
